Flan
This is a French dessert pie-ish vanilla-ish sweet-ish thing I got introduced to by my in-laws. I love it and I made it myself recently, it's surprisingly easy.
You need:
- A bowl
- A small pan
- A whisk
- A square oven pan (like for lasagne or brownies)
- Recommended: 1dl measuring cup
- Some vanilla sugar
- 1dl sugar
- 1dl cornstarch
- 5dl milk
- An egg
Set your oven to 200 degrees (C!) and put some butter on the oven pan.
Measure the cornstarch followed by the sugar into the bowl and grab the milk. Measure 1dl of milk and throw it in with the sugar and starch. Put the rest of the milk in a small pan and put it on the stove. Throw in the egg and the vanilla sugar with the batter and mix it with the whisk until it is smooth. Now wait and watch the milk boil.
Turn down the heat to low and add the batter when the milk starts to boil. Use the whisk to keep it from forming lumps and stir until it becomes a porridgy/custardy thick-ish substance. Throw the batter into the oven pan and chuck it in the oven for 40 min until it forms a nice and brown cover.
Here comes the biggest problem: let it cool and put it in the fridge, it will be awesome when it is cold. Optionally you can whip some cream and eat it when it has cooled down just slightly.
